Bring Your Own Key.
The BYOK plan lets you plug in your own Groq or OpenAI API key. We encrypt it at rest — you pay your provider directly for model calls, and Nestled handles everything else.
Why BYOK?
BYOK makes sense when you have high query volumes and your per-query cost on your provider's plan is lower than Nestled's overage pricing. It also gives you unlimited monthly queries — we don't enforce any cap on your own key.
Setting it up
- Upgrade to the BYOK plan.
- Go to Billing → BYOK Configuration.
- Select your provider (Groq or OpenAI).
- Paste your API key and click Save API key.
Your key is sent over HTTPS and immediately encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a server-side secret before it touches our database. We never store the plaintext key.

Removing your key
Go to Billing → BYOK Configuration and click Remove. Your key is wiped from our database immediately. If you don't add a new key, your chatbots will stop answering until you re-enter one or switch to a different plan.
If you cancel the BYOK plan, your encrypted key is automatically deleted. You'll be moved back to Free and chatbots above the Free plan limit will be paused.
